Two major World Bank aided projects in transport and shelter sectors were completed by MMRDA. Bombay Urban Transport Project ( BUTP) basically aimed at improving the public bus service and to ease the traffic conditions by constructing fly-overs on selected road corridors in Greater Mumbai. Mumbai Urban Development Project (MUDP) is one of the largest site and services project undertaken in MMR. Shifting of wholesale markets from congested parts of Mumbai was successfully implemented by MMRDA. For this purpose a special regulation for location of specified commodities market Act was created.

Under the on-going projects development of Wadala Truck Terminal is expected to provide a centralised facility for goods transport activities at a well planned site. It would relieve traffic congestion and resultant air pollution on the roads of Greater Mumbai. Work is in progress on establishing an International Finance and Business Centre at Bandra-Kurla Complex which would help creating necessary facilities to promote growth of such activities in MMR. In another part of Bandra-Kurla Complex, Mahim Nature Park is being developed. The project site was previously a garbage dumping ground which is being suitably converted into a park for recreational and educational purposes.

As a sequel to the previous World Bank aided transport project, Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) is planned by MMRDA. It is a multi modal project envisaging investments in road and rail projects.
